Scubase® System Requirements

Following are the minimum system requirements for installing and running Scubase:

Hardware Requirements

Microsoft® Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later (all editions except Embedded) or Microsoft Windows Vista. Scubase should also run on Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) or later (all editions) and Windows Server 2003 (all editions), but it is not fully tested in these environments.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later (any edition). A free Express Edition is included on the Scubase CD or can be downloaded from Microsoft here: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The Advanced Services version is not necessary. Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or higher (prerequisite for SQL Server 2005, already installed on Windows Vista). This software is included on the Scubase CD or can be downloaded using Start->Windows Update->Custom->Optional Software.
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.0 or higher (prerequisite for .NET Framework, already installed on Windows Vista). Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is included on the Scubase CD or can be downloaded using Start->Windows Update->Custom->Optional Software.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later (prerequisite for .NET Framework). Can be downloaded using Start->Windows Update->Custom->Optional Software.

The number of dives, sites and organisms that can be entered into a registered copy of Scubase is only limited by the maximum database size and is unlikely to be reached through normal use. The only situation when size could be an issue is if you import a very large number of very high resolution pictures. The free Microsoft SQLServer 2005 Express Edition database engine has a maximum limit of 4 GB per database. If a larger database is required, then any other edition of Microsoft® SQL Server 2005 can be used with Scubase.
Scubase works only with data represented in the Western character set. Alternative character sets, such as Eastern European, Chinese or Japanese are not supported.
